Private shore excursion
Duration 3.5-4 hours
The tour will be done by an accessible Mercedes Viano minivan with a ramp. We heartily encourage wheelchair- bound visitors to join us and see Tallinn in comfort.
Our climate controlled private panoramic tour takes you on an entertaining, narrated journey to several of Tallinn’s distinct neighborhoods, including the Old Town. You learn about Estonia´s colorful past and exciting present. There are several possibilities to stop along the way, so that you can get out and take some pictures of Tallinn’s many fantastic sights.
We pick you up from the cruise harbor and start the tour with a visit to the upper part of Tallinn Old Town aka Toompea Hill. You see nearly 800 years old Dome Cathedral; Toompea Castle; Russian Orthodox Church with its onion-shaped domes. You have a stunning birds-eye-view over the city from the observation platform.
After that, we leave the touristy environment and mindset behind for a while and show you Kalamaja, one of the oldest suburbs of Tallinn; today a well-restored wooden houses area with a strong local community.
Then it´s on to lower part of the Old Town with its medieval merchant houses; fatter and thinner city wall towers; the houses of guilds and the central Town Hall Square. The route is step-free; though there are some cobblestones and curbs. Most streets have plain sidewalks.
We then drive through the modern business center and reach to the “must-see” sights Kadriorg baroque Park & Palace and the Song Festival Grounds. Kadriorg palace was a summer residence, built by Tsar Peter I in the 18th century for his empress, Catherine. The Song Festival Grounds is the venue for the traditional Song Festival held in every 5 years and the place where the Singing Revolution took place in late 1980s.
Pirita neighborhood with the ruins of St Brigit´s Convent and a former Olympic Village is up next. Pirita is a residential district with distinctive examples of architecture originating from various decades of the 20th century.
Along the way back to harbor you can enjoy the city panorama. At the end of your Tallinn accessible tour, we take you back to the cruise terminal to board your ship. Should you wish to stay in the city center for a few more hours, a private transfer back to the cruise terminal is available upon request for an extra cost of €25 per vehicle.
Parliament Building; St. Mary’s Cathedral; Alexander Nevsky Cathedral; Viewing platform; Tall Hermann; Fat Margaret; Kalamaja neighborhood; Seaplane Harbor; Patarei Sea Fortress-Prison; Great Guild Hall; Church of the Holy Spirit; Town Hall and the Town Hall Square; Town Council´s Pharmacy; town wall; medieval merchant houses; modern business center; Soviet architecture; Kadriorg Park and Palace; Presidential Palace; KUMU Art Museum; Song Festival Grounds; St. Bridget’s Convent; Pirita neighborhood; …and quite a lot more.
